Chondrosarcoma

Chondrosarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the cells that produce cartilage, a flexible connective tissue found throughout the body. It is the second most common primary malignant bone tumour, occurring most often in adults over the age of 40, although it can affect individuals of any age.

Chondrosarcomas can develop in any bone that contains cartilage, such as the pelvis, ribs, arms, legs, and spine. They can also arise in cartilage within the joints, such as the knee or shoulder. The exact cause of chondrosarcoma is unknown, but certain genetic mutations and inherited conditions, such as Ollier's disease or Maffucci syndrome, may increase the risk.
